About Hawke Robinson
I have been researching, learning, and volunteering for, interdisciplinary studies including psychology, neuroscience, recreation therapy, and music therapy.
I have been registered with the Washington State Department of Health as a Recreational Therapist since 2014.
I am a member in good standing with the following TR associations:
- Washington State Therapeutic Recreation Association (WSTRA), since 2013.
- Pacific Northwest American Therapeutic Recreation Association (PNWATRA), since 2016.
- American Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA), since 2014.
- I was a presenter at WSTRA's annual conferences in 2015 & 2016, and at PNWATRA conference in 2016, which included ATRA accredited Continuing Education Units for presentation attendees.
I am currently working on a degree in Recreation Therapy, Music, Research Psychology, and Neuroscience.
I have been studying and volunteering over the years in many related areas (Hippotherapy (aka Equestrian Therapy), Play Therapy, Music Therapy, & Recreation Therapy), and will have two internships next year. A 16 week 40 hours per week Therapeutic Recreation internship, and a 10 week psychology-related internship.
I have been working with many populations over the years, including:
- Autism spectrum (ASD / PDD from profound impairment to "high functioning", & ADHD) from 2 year toddlers to adults.
- At-risk and troubled youth.
- The Deaf & Hard of Hearing communities.
- Brain injury (stroke, Traumatic Brain Injury, etc.).
- Spinal Cord Injury (SCI)
- Parkinson's, Cerebral Palsy (CP), Down syndrome, and many other developmental, intellectual, and physical challenges.
After completing the internships, I plan to sit for the NCTRC CTRS. I also hope to qualify to sit for the American Music Therapy Association certification as well.
After all that, I am considering going on to a graduate degree in related fields.
I was a Certified Nursing Assistant in Murray, Utah around 1990-1992 while working at Doxie Hatch, and a Habilitation Therapist in Sandy, Utah for Hillcrest Care Center around the same time (I was working both jobs simultaneously).
I am also involved in research since 2004 using bio-feedback, neuro-feedback, bio/neuro monitoring, and bio/neuro interactive interfaces.
